Lane Cedar Chest

This cedar chest by Lane furniture company was covered in beautiful walnut veneer. This piece, though greatly cherished by it’s owner who received it as a wedding gift, had damage to the top. The original finish had failed and therefore water damage and staining occurred over time. The veneer was painstakingly restored with various methods to remove and minimize dents, scratches, and stains. The interior of the chest was given a light sanding and oiling to maximize its beauty and functionality. The back of the chest was also refinished in case the new owner wanted to float it in the middle of a room. Signs of this chest’s previous life still remained but I believe that only gives a piece its unique character. A low VOC varnish and water-based stain were used to finish this piece. The hardware was brought back to life with gold enamel.
