Haywood Wakefield Contessa

This is a 1960’s Haywood Wakefield highboy from the Contessa series by Carl Otto. It features sleek 10″ black steel legs, and gold cat-eye drawer pulls. The original finish was cloudy and hiding the beautiful birch wood grain underneath. After removing the finish I settled on a chestnut wood stain. The piece was sealed with a water-based finish in satin. The brass plating on the hardware was failing and therefore received a fresh coat of gold enamel. This is a rare piece from Haywood Wakefield but I hope to find another one to work on in the future.
